Martine Johanna is a Dutch born female artist with a BA and MA. The artist has developed a unique visual highly prismatic language channeling her authentic viewpoints and mental struggles with a patriarchal society, separating herself from the establishment. She currently lives and works in the Netherlands in the countryside, maintaining close ties to her former Amsterdam location where she worked & resided for 12 years. Each painting peeks into Johanna’s private world, where she grapples with women’s hypervisibility and invisibility. The figures look past the viewer as though our presence is inconsequential. Her haunting protagonists evoke a sense of mystery and strength.
